Lesson

• Before reading, complete the “Anticipation Guide” (pg. 5) from the Educator’s Guide.
• Read the book together (aloud, independently, or in sections).
• Use the educator’s guide to facilitate your discussion of the book When Stars are Scattered. Suggested themes include refugee life, the importance of education, responsibility within families, and resilience and hope.
• After finishing the book, complete the “Reflection Guide” (pg. 11).
• Students may choose to complete one or two of the “Response to Reading” activities as well.

Omar takes on many responsibilities while still holding onto hope for his future. Write about a time when you had to be responsible for something important. How did it shape you?
