Here’s a peek into the Global Explorers Weekly R

Here’s a peek into the Global Explorers Weekly Routine we use to guide us through each country study. Our themed days help us prioritize different subjects each day. We typically spend 2-4 weeks exploring each country, giving us plenty of opportunity to dive deep, follow some rabbit trails, and enjoy every moment of our journey together.

🌍 Map It Monday – We start the week by introducing a new country. First, we dive into its geography, work on our maps, and explore different books and resources to become familiar with our new destination. In subsequent weeks, we’ll add to our maps as we continue to explore the country’s landscapes, culture, and history.

📖 Folk Tale Tuesday – Time for stories! We listen to the selected folktale, work on writing exercises, and snuggle up with books about the country we’re exploring.

🌿 Wild Wednesday – It’s science and nature day! We look into the wildlife, natural wonders, and science activities connected to our country of the week.

🎨 Thoughtful Thursday – It’s time to get creative! From local crafts to exploring traditional art and music, today is all about cultivating curiosity and creativity.

🎉 Fun & Games Friday – We wrap up our week with games, crafts, and cooking activities inspired by our studies. Friday’s also a good time to wrap up any projects that may have been started earlier in the week.

Each day offers a little something different to keep our learning fun and engaging — and the best part is that you can easily adapt the Global Explorers geography homeschool curriculum to fit your family’s unique rhythm.

We’ve started our study of East Africa with the country of Tanzania. This week we’ll read several Tanzanian children’s books, including Elizabeti’s Doll; Babu’s Song; My Rows and Piles of Coins; and The Banana-Leaf Ball: How Play Can Change the World. We’ll discuss the virtue of helpfulness, listen to an East African folk tale, Three Little Critters, and explore some of Tanzania’s most iconic landmarks — Mount Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro Crater, and Serengeti National Park. The girls will get hands-on by crafting rock dolls and designing their own kanga. We’ll also sip on tea masala as we continue our study of the African rainforest, investigating chimpanzee behavior and the Linnaean classification system. #tanzaniaunitstudy #homeschoolfun #handsonlearning

Folk Tale Tuesday has become one of our favorite traditions in our homeschool. 📖

Every Tuesday we gather round our coffee table with an assortment of snacks and coloring pencils and listen to a selected folk tale from @circleroundpodcast while coloring the corresponding coloring sheet they make available for free. ☕️ 🍪

Afterwards, we discuss the folk tale and then complete some writing exercises together. ✏️

After a brief introductory unit to Africa last wee

After a brief introductory unit to Africa last week, we’re ready to delve back into our country studies this semester, starting with Ghana.

Today we read a little about the country of Ghana and its flag, learned about Kente cloth, read some Anansi stories, and played a couple circle games and learned to sing the songs Obwisana and Sansa Kroma.

I’m so excited about some of the resources we’ll be using as we explore Africa, and I can’t wait to share more about them in upcoming posts. 📚 🎶 🥘
